The City of Andalusia will be closed today in recognition of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This federal holiday observed on the third Monday of January each year. King was the chief spokesperson for nonviolent activism in the Civil Rights Movement.
Monday's garbage will be collected on Tuesday, Jan. 20, along with Tuesday's route.
The Oleander 2 Civic and Social Club will host its 5th annual HBCU College and Career Fair at Andalusia HIgh School to educate area students on HBCUs, as well as recruitment and employmnet opportunities.

Social Hour and Entertainment begins at 5:30 p.m. with the program starting at 6:30 p.m. Taommy Jackson is the guest speaker. Individual tickets are $50 for members and $75 for non-members.

St. Mary's Episcopal Church will host its annual Mardi Gras 5K on Sat., Feb. 14, with an added twist - a gumbo cookoff, with categories for amateur and professional gumbo cooks. All proceeds benefit St. Mary's Rice and Beans outreach ministry.
