The mission of the Planning and Development department is to support Andalusia’s motto, “A proud heritage; A progressive future” by providing growth for its citizens. We strive to attain superior customer service in matters relating to the revitalization of current buildings and new development. By doing this, we will ensure the beautification enhancement of our community.
We constantly strive to ensure that building codes for both commercial and residential structures are met; thus ensuring the safety of each and every resident.
License Ordinance
The Business License Office located at City Hall is responsible for issuing annual Business Licenses, yard sale permits, and taking payments for pet adoptions at the City's animal shelter.
Business License:
The City Council of the City of Andalusia adopted a license ordinance in January 1987. This license ordinance was updated in January 2008 due to a mandate from the State of Alabama.

Business License Application
Some businesses require a schedule in order to calculate the fee for their business license. These type licenses that are affected by this schedule are as follows:

Yard Sales:
Yard sale permits may be obtained by calling the License Clerk's office at City Hall.

Inspection Services
All jobs related to construction (new construction and/or renovations) within the city limits of Andalusia must be permitted. The permits may be classified as Residential or Commercial. The types of permits that require an inspection are listed as follows:

The City of Andalusia employs a Building Inspector who is responsible for inspecting construction work associated with all permitted jobs. He also has the following reponsibilities:
Approves applications for permits
Authorizes the issuance of permits
Upon final inspections of jobs, he authorizes the issuance of a Certificate of Occupancy
Creates all inspection reports
Secures that all construction is in compliance with City ordinances and building codes
