Ground/Line Crew Apprentices

The Utilities Board of the City of Andalusia is accepting applications for (2) of Ground/Line Crew Apprentice positions in the Electric Department.This employee performs semi-skilled electrical work and manual labor of the apprentice level in the construction, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution and transmission systems.The employee performs various tasks in support of electrical line workers and assists journeymen line workers in the performance of their duties. Employees are required to climb poles, working at moderate heights and at times working with high tension wires under adverse weather conditions. Duties also include the operation of special purpose line trucks and attached equipment, such as power winches, hydraulic bucket equipment, earth boring machines and pole trailers used on heavy construction jobs. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license as issued by the Alabama Department of Public Safety.
• May require Commercial Driver’s License Class A.
• Some experience in handling construction materials and use of hand tools.
• Experience in training in electrical distribution systems, maintenance and construction.  

YEARLY ENTRY SALARY RANGE:  Based on experience and qualifications
